As spring turned to summer that first year and blossoms turned to bright red berries, we came to the conclusion that the former home owners had planted bushes that would result in a bumper crop of raspberries.
A funny thing happened to those bright red raspberries though-the center berry in each cluster turned a deep, rich purple color, while the surrounding berries remained bright red. A little research revealed that the berries on those bushes were actually black raspberries, which were ripe for the picking once they turned the dark purple hue.
