Instructions
Step 1:
Create the adjustable ring shank
Using heavy-duty wire cutters, cut a 6" length of steel wire from the spool. Bend the wire in half with flat-nose pliers and pinch the U-shaped end so the wires are about ¼" in distance from each other.

Step 2
Starting at the looped end, bend the wire around a ring mandrel to size. It is fine if there is a bit of overlap, as it will make the ring more versatile for future sizing adjustment. Make sure that both free ends of the wire are lying next to each other...not straddling the loop. Try the ring on and make adjustments as needed. When you are satisfied with the ring size, bend the free ends upward at a right angle.

Step 3
Texture and work-harden the ring shank using the flat end of your hammer. When finished, check the size and shape of your ring again and make adjustments as necessary.

Step 4
Bend the end of one upright wire at a right angle about ¼" from the initial right angle bend so it folds over on itself and creates a "U" shape. Bend the other wire end about ¼" from the initial bend so it faces in the opposite direction of the first wire. Cut off excess wire to within ¼" of the final bend on each end.

Step 5:
Create the polymer clay coral
Condition your polymer clay using a roller or pasta machine. Roll the Cadmium Red, White, and Zinc Yellow together until the color is well blended. Then roll the clay into a snake ¼" in thickness. Cut off a 1" section of clay and embed it on the bent wire ends following the lengthwise direction of the ring shank. Turn the ring to its underside and secure the clay so it covers the upright portion of both wires. Cut another section of clay and roll it a bit thinner than the previous section. Cut to a length of ½", slicing one end at a 45 degree angle and making a ¼" deep slit in the center of the opposite end. Spread the slit so it forms a branch and smooth any sharp edges.
Attach firmly to the larger faux coral branch. Smooth and blend all edges. Using a texturing tool, poke tiny holes into the surface of the faux coral. When you are pleased with the shape of your faux coral branch, secure your ring by placing the metal shank in a locking tweezers and bake in a craft oven according to the clay manufacturers directions. Note: Premo! clay bakes at 275 degrees and 20 minutes per ¼" thickness of clay...if using a different brand of clay, temperature and time required to bake the clay may differ.

Step 6
When the faux coral branch has cooled, paint the piece with Burnt Umber acrylic paint, making sure all the holes are covered in paint. Before the paint dries, wipe the surface of the faux coral branch lightly with a paper towel leaving paint in the holes and crevices. Dampen the paper towel slightly and wipe once more if paint residue remains on the surface.

Step 7:
Create the anemone base
Roll the Bright Green Pearl polymer clay into a pea-sized ball and slightly flatten the bottom. Apply Liquid Translucent Sculpey Medium to the bottom and place on top of the faux coral branch. Press down firmly. Clean up any excess Liquid translucent Sculpey Medium at the base.

Step 8
Roll a small pea-sized ball of Peacock colored polymer clay into a cone shape. With the pointed end of a texture tool or toothpick, make a well in the Bright Green Pearl polymer clay and set the Peacock cone into the well. Use the pointed end of a texture tool to create a well inside the top of the Peacock pol

Step 9:
Create the anemone tentacles
Mix one drop of alcohol ink with the translucent polymer clay and blend well. Roll the clay into a snake 1/8" in diameter. Cut off small sections approximate 5mm (1/4") and roll to a diameter of 1mm (1/32"). Cut these sections into 5mm to 7mm (1/4" to 1/3") lengths.

Step 10
Starting at the perimeter of the Peacock cone, poke a small hole in the Bright Green Pearl polymer clay. Place a smidge of Liquid Translucent Sculpey into the hole, and insert one of the tentacles. Continue in this fashion around the entire perimeter of the cone and on the entire base of the Anemone.

Step 11
Roll a snake of Bright Green Pearl to the same size as the tentacles and cut several sections. Use them to fill the hole in the cone. Poke a tiny shallow hole in the center top of these tentacles if you wish.

Step 12
Lightly dust the tips of the tentacles with pearlescent powder. Bake your ring according to the clay manufacturer's directions.

Step 13
Optional: Apply touches of acrylic paint to accent portions of the ring to achieve a more painterly effect. Bake the ring again to bond the paint to the polymer clay. If desired, apply a protective gloss or matte finish to your work.
