Instructions
Step 1
Take the 24 ft (60 cm) of 14-gauge wire and bend a little at the end (see photo). Use a hammer to flatten it and smooth the end with a file. I am placing the stone just to check it. The stone will be in the center of the bracelet.
Step 2
Now place the flattened end of the wire against the mandrel and start to wrap it around. We will make the left side of bracelet first. Don't make any straight lines, they must all be wavy. Double back the wire, making a long loop. Remember this will be a cuff, so there will be an opening in the back of the bracelet. Here I'm testing the stone placement again at the front of the bracelet.
Step 3
Repeat that on the other side of the bracelet. From here, you will meander the wire back and forth around the mandrel. Over lap the wires and create your own pattern for the frame.
Step 4
Cut from the length of wire, leaving yourself another foot to work with. Swirl the wire back through the end loop and loop it around the frame in any way that pleases your eye!
Step 5
Create a spiral at the end of the bracelet. Hammer the end flat and file smooth. Then hook the spiral onto the bracelet frame.
Step 6
Now we will start weaving. We must connect all the different wires together for strength, but make it elegant. First string on the briolette onto the 28g wire and weave as shown on either side of the focal.
Step 7
Now we're going to add a piece of 18g wire to further strengthen the bracelet and to cross over the focal to secure it. Take a piece about 6 to 8 inches and wrap it over and around the bracelet like on photos below. Follow the curves of the heavier wire and let the 18g flow around the bracelet.
Spiral, hammer and smooth the ends of the 18g wire.
Fold the spirals into the bracelet.
Step 8
Continue weaving with the 28g wire here and there around the bracelet base wires. I've added a metal bead occasionally, but that's optional. Make sure you weave a portion of each crossing wires to make the bracelet sturdy.
Step 9
Mix a liver of sulfur solution to oxidize the bracelet and make it look vintage. Rinse and dry, and polish the high spots.
Wash it with soap and cold water, and lacquer it, if you wish, to keep the shine.
