Serpentine is a beautiful, semi-translucent stone found across the world, and has been used extensively in many cultures for thousands of years in carvings and jewelry, including New Zealand, Afghanistan, Ireland, and Rome. Serpentine is named for the green color it sometimes exhibits; although it appears in a range of hues, from very light green, or almost white, to medium green. Some serpentine stones can look like pale jade, and sometimes people call this serpentine jade. Green serpentine can also be spotted with brown or yellow specks; this kind is sometimes called serpentine marble.
